For security reasons Microsoft encourages its customers to activate multi-factor authentication, it allows to block most phishing attacks.
If this type of strong authentication (MFA, 2FA...) has been deployed on your Microsoft environment (office365, outllook, Exchange...) you will need to create an application password in order to use it in ALERT with the mail driver or the Exchange driver for example.
To do this, go to the Microsoft account of the email address used in ALERT:
https://myaccount.microsoft.com/
Once logged in:
- On the left menu click on Security info
- Then +Add a sign in method
In the drop-down menu of the new window select App Password and click on Add button
You are then asked to enter a name for the app password, fill it in at discretion. and click Next.
The password is now generated. WARNING: it must be copied and SAVED (in a virtual safe for example) because it is the ONLY TIME it will be visible.
After copying, click on Done button
In ALERT, you can now use this password instead of the old one.
