To be able to make voice calls and to send SMS, we are going to add a GSM vocal modem to ALERT. The modem must be connected to the machine directly on a serial port on the motherboard, via a USB / Serial adapter or via a Moxa. An active SIM card must also have been inserted in the modem.
Adding the modem on the serial port
The configuration starts by adding the port in ALERT. Whether the modem is a GSM modem or an analog modem, the port addition is identical
You must first be connected to ALERT with a login with sufficient rights to configure the communication channels.
Select Communication in the Configuration menu or click on the icon in the toolbar.
On port tab, click on "add..."
Then select the COM port (here COM3) and click on "OK"
Check the "Voice Modem" and "GSM/PCS Modem" boxes to allow voice calls.
Afterwards we will configure the specific parameters to the GSM modem, then to the voice modem.
GSM settings
To display the GSM parameters box, click on next to GSM / PCS Modem. (watch the previous screenshot)
- Indicate country and provider name of the SIM card
- Enter the PIN code of the SIM card
- Leave the other parameters by default: When "OK" is received, the call is acknowledged
Voice settings
To display the voice parameters box, click on next to Voice modem.
The modem configured by default is the modem supplied by Micromedia.
Only the speed will need to be changed if the modem is connected to a serial port on the motherboard (115200).
Once these parameters are done, the modem is now enabled (the added port appears in green in ALERT)
